About
I am a Brussels-based marquetry artist working at the meeting point of craft and contemporary design. My practice treats wood veneer as a material to compose with: I assemble reclaimed and offcut veneers into one-of-a-kind marquetry surfaces for objects, wall pieces and lighting. Each piece is unique, shaped by the grain and colour of the salvaged wood it is made from, with a strong emphasis on local sourcing, reuse and repairability. For Brussels Design Week, I want to present this body of work together with the research I am developing as a laureate of the ReProduce Brussels programme: a contemporary marquetry language applied to everyday objects and surfaces. The work is prototyped within Brussels' CityFab fablabs, my partners for this project, where digital fabrication meets marquetry by hand. An emerging line of marquetry furniture details is currently in development and will extend this exploration.
