As of every year and with an ever-growing curiosity, the Brussels Design September promotes the interaction between roughly a hundred Belgian and international artists and creators with amateurs and connoisseurs in the field of design.

BDS is a fundamentally multifaceted festival that encourages the greater numbers to cross the line and encounter the new facets of today’s design industry by coming in contact with the artists and craftsmen and women in their action (i.e. Arts&Crafts, Jewelry-making, Ceramics, Tapestry Fablabs, Upcycling...etc). Amongst all, the public can choose to see exhibitions, open workshops, happenings, conferences, hands-on workshops, name it...we do it. We will miss no opportunity to encourage exchange and enrichment of knowledge or sensitivity.

This edition will focus on design solutions for our new ways of living and working. In keeping with the multidisciplinary spirit of the event, the various movements, influences, references and professions involved in today's design will be harmoniously highlighted.

Once again, we want to reinforce the image of Brussels as an attractive and dynamic capital: we will highlight the innovation of our young designers through various events related to Design, in order to enhance the commercial attractiveness of the city.

These past few years, Brussels has incontestably become a city of Design, thanks to the talent and the ingeniousness of our designers. Design from Brussels has started to gain quite a reputation and we want to contribute to this in our own way by organising this event. Design September always wanted to connect with the city and represent its various exaltations and diversities. The importance and influence of the event are shaped more and more as design in its most various forms takes an increasingly important place in the daily life of Brussels : urban furniture, installations, lights...

Our designers’ innovations find their place in the urban landscape. This has contributed in a positive way to the city’s reputation and to its economic and tourist activity. The city of Brussels needs events that put creativity and innovation at the forefront. Design September, alongside the Brussels-Capital Region, the City of Brussels and many institutional and private partners, is proud to contribute to it.

The month of September promises to offer us a wealth of cultural initiatives and surprises. Museums, galleries, workshops, schools, shops and new shared spaces will showcase the best of Brussels’ creativity in terms of design and innovation.

Through a varied programme of activities, Brussels Design September 2022 gives the public the opportunity to meet designers and ask questions about current topical issues: the usage of our planet’s resources, environmental challenges and mobility.

It is no longer sufficient for an object to just be 'useful' and ‘beautiful’; it now has to be sustainable. Design concerns everyone. In addition to the product and the material used to produce it, the way the object is used and its impact on users are also important factors. Production and sourcing are taking an increasing precedence over other considerations.

In September, we will shine a spotlight on entrepreneurs who are active in upcycling and circular and collaborative design with a itinerary Art&Crafts and Fablab&Makers proposed. The festival will showcase achievements, promote discussions and propose solutions and exchanges in temporary occupied locations.

The unmissable Vintage and Contemporary Design Market on 24 and 25 September.

Contemporary Design Market: a more inclusive market reflecting the diversity of Belgium and Brussels! It will highlight this combination that is a source of pride, during a reflexion on all the different forms of contemporary design: different approaches and cultural contexts, styles, colours and visual languages.
Guest of honour: Noro Khachatryan
Young guest of honour: Thibeau Scarceriaux
Guest duo: Gilles Mayk Navangi & Pieter Bostoen

20th anniversary this year for the Brussels Design Market: vintage and second-hand eco-responsible shopping!
Brussels has an infinite number of precious places where one can find items that appeal to all tastes and interiors. Vintage objects have an obvious ethical dimension, and the city is a treasure-trove buzzing with friendly, offbeat shops dedicated to old and second-hand design items. This is the 20th year that the Brussels Design Market will be bringing together around 100 traders who come from all over Europe especially for the occasion.
