About
East Meets West in Contemporary Teahouse Design Project Description: JIATÉ is a compact yet multifunctional teahouse in Brussels’ European Quarter that embodies the fusion of Taiwanese tradition and contemporary Western design.
The interior concept balances Asian warmth and ritual with European minimalism — celebrating cultural convergence through materials, form, and flow.
The space is structured around three distinct seating zones: A communal central area with marble-topped tables and soft beige chairs; a window bar with gold-framed stools for casual tea moments or solo visitors; a cozy bench sofa corner, ideal for intimate gatherings and long stays.
A palette of gold metal finishes, warm lighting, natural wood, and matte marble evokes both refinement and comfort.
Custom gold pendant lamps offer a vertical rhythm, while light-reflective surfaces — like the polished ceiling and metallic bar — add luminosity and enhance the space's verticality.
The bespoke tea bar acts as both a functional counter and a visual centerpiece. With recessed lighting and a textured front facade, it grounds the space in tactile elegance.
Integrated into the bar is a specialized tea brewing station — a key element reflecting the brand’s Taiwanese heritage.
Sleek, induction-based brewers and minimal ceramic teapots allow for precise preparation of traditional teas with a modern touch.
The façade combines restored heritage architecture with contemporary branding. Its pale blue framing, clear street visibility, and warm wood-framed windows create a clean yet inviting street presence, drawing attention without excess.
Overall, JIATÉ is a seamless blend of design and function — a 40m² space where every element serves both an aesthetic and experiential role.
Through thoughtful zoning, material harmony, and cultural layering, JIATÉ becomes a place not only to enjoy tea, but to appreciate the quiet beauty of design where East meets West.
