Hugo - The Expanding Wheelchair Redefining Mobility for Children

About

The Czech Centre Brussels proudly presents "Hugo", an innovative expanding wheelchair for children, designed by the talented Jan Kaděra, Czech National Prize for Young Design 2023 winner. This groundbreaking project will be showcased at the Silversquare Central, Cantersteen 47, Brussels, a coworking space located in the heart of the city, within a beautiful art deco building on top of Central Station, as part of Brussels Design September. The event at Silversquare Central will run from 12 September until 2 October, and visitors can view the installation on working days from 8:30 until 18:00.

Hugo represents a paradigm shift in children's mobility solutions, addressing common challenges faced by families and healthcare providers. Traditional children's wheelchairs often come with prohibitive costs and limited longevity. Hugo's ingenious design overcomes these obstacles by growing with the child, accommodating users from ages 4 to 10.

The wheelchair's key features make it stand out in the field of adaptive design. Its adaptability allows it to expand and fit the child's growing body, ensuring years of comfortable use. This unique quality makes Hugo an economical choice, eliminating the need for frequent replacements and offering a cost-effective solution for families.
The wheelchair boasts customizable ergonomics, allowing for individual modifications to suit each child's specific needs. A user-friendly design incorporates an integrated toolbox, enabling easy and immediate adjustments. Built for durability, Hugo withstands the rigors of daily use over many years. All these functional elements are wrapped in an aesthetically appealing, clean, and modern design that doesn't compromise on style.
Hugo embodies four core principles: practicality, durability, variability, and clean design. It's not just a wheelchair; it's a companion that evolves with the child, supporting their journey towards independence and self-expression.

Silverquare coworking spaces are committed to fostering inclusivity by creating an environment that prioritizes accessible design for people of all abilities, backgrounds, and working styles. Silversquare spaces are imagined by creatives for creatives, providing diverse workspaces, adaptive tools, and community-driven initiatives to ensure that everyone feels welcome, supported, and empowered to collaborate and thrive. By embracing inclusive design principles, we cultivate a creative ecosystem where innovation is enriched by the diversity of our members.

With Hugo, we are celebrating this remarkable fusion of form and function, where innovative design meets social responsibility. Experience Hugo - the wheelchair that grows with your child, and grows on you.
