SHOPS & BRANDS
Founded in Copenhagen in 2006, Mater is a pioneering green-tech design brand with sustainability and circularity at its core who’s using cutting-edge technology in production allowing them to transform waste materials into furniture. Creating timeless designs in a sustainable and responsible way. “More from less”. Approximately 36% of all plastic produced is used for food packaging and is often difficult to recycle. Most commonly, it is burned with CO2 emissions to follow. For the last couple of years, Mater has been working with Tetra Pak and has now found a way to recycle post- consumer waste in their Matek® production. The result of the collab is a special edition of the Conscious Chair with a seat and back made out of Tetra Pak waste mixed with coffee shell waste. From surplus plastic to designer chair. In collaboration with two other Danish companies, Mater has extended the lifespan of more than 500 kg of surplus plastic from the production of milk cartons. During the injection process, small pieces of leftover plastic are rejected and they can also use them for producing the Matek®. This surplus plastic is mixed with coffee shell waste, and out of the 500 kg of plastic, they can produce 300 Conscious Chairs. In 2022 Mater removed 30 tons of waste and turned it into furniture. In 2023, they aim to remove 100 tons of waste from the planet. We welcome you to explore the Mater's waste-based furniture collection.
