About
WHY “Celles qui font le design”?
Founded five years ago, the studio Maak & Transmettre embodies a spirit of innovation, creativity, and knowledge sharing. Composed of three designers — Alice Emery, Salomé Corvalan, and Mathilde Pecqueur — our collective strives to combine art and design with a social and educational commitment.
Our practice encompasses both purely textile creation and the transmission of skills within the shared workshop auCharbon, with a focus on female entrepreneurship.
As part of our mission of “knowledge sharing,” we launched in 2022 a conference series called CELLES QUI FONT LE DESIGN. Since then, this program has taken place every autumn as part of Brussels Design September.
Four conferences are held, covering four different themes with about a dozen invited guests.
This initiative aims to highlight women and non-binary people working in design, as well as in architecture, curating, and research.
Indeed, we have noticed that these people are often underrepresented, made invisible, or relegated to domestic spheres.
Yet, as Séphora Thomas (psychoanalyst and art history teacher) said:
“There is indeed a female genealogy, and we need these role models to shape ourselves.”
It is in response to this that we created the conference series, providing a platform for those who influence the design world.
The goal is to give inspiring women the opportunity to share their experiences and perspectives, to challenge gender stereotypes, and to talk about what drives us: design — creation for others, creation for everyone!
The 3rd edition of the “Celles qui font le design” conference series, organized by ASBL Maak & Transmettre, will take place from 23 September to 1 October 2025, with two conferences per week, exploring the themes of space, media, light, and color.
