After studying interior architecture and furniture design, Axelle Vertommen started working as a freelance designer. She currently works for Dries Otten and Studio Haver, among others. Under her own name she also designs interiors and objects, focusing on detailing and contrasts in the use of materials. She draws inspiration from everyday objects and extraordinary architecture from modernism and post-modernism.
Axelle tries to approach existing objects from a different angle, without losing sight of the practical. Functionality always lies at the basis of her designs, but the aesthetic also prevails. For example, she recently designed exclusive scratching posts which, in contrast to standard models, are an added value in an interior. Her bed, with colourful, reversible cushions as the headboard, is also functional in all its simplicity. In her interiors she always looks for unexpected combinations of colors and materials, which together form a harmonious whole.
